After 25 years of competitive cycling and putting kids through college, I thought it was time for me. You will hear me refer to cycling alot as it is much the same in alot of ways. Also competitive cycling remains as one of my deepest passions, its been very good to me. I had this 97 M3 Sedan since 2000, it had 20K on it when I bought it. I'm second owner. Anyway the car sat there never being driven. The car needed brakes and I went to Turner Motorsports which is 20 min from me. When I was there I met a guy who said something about track days. Here we go. In 2007 I did 3 track days. Over the winter that year I put N group in the car, upgraded the brakes a bit and in 2008 I did 7 track days, 5 at NHMS and 2 at WGI. In 2008 I also attended the BMWCCA race school at WGI. Over the summer of 2008 i started preparing the car. I stripped the interior, bought a tubing bender from Pro Tools and started the cage. I'm not a bad welder anyway and I had all that stuff as I use it in my buiseness. Over the winter on 08 I finished the car, cammed the motor, diff and decided to go racing in 09. What a year! I did 2 SCCA schools since there is so much SCCA racing up here. I did one school at NHMS and on at Limerock. I raced the day after each school at those tracks. I also did 3 other SCCA races. Good stuff there, no 13/13 and i got a little pushed around, but learnt alot, met some real nice guys who helped me out. I also did 2 BMWCCA races, Tremblant,WGI and NHMS. My results were good and an overall win at NHMS was nice. To be honest I like to win, but as it was in bike racing it is not the overall goal for me. I aim to race hard and fair, have good pack ediquet and be competitive. As I learnt in cycling if you do this you get a name, get respect and the results will come from there. I was instantly used to all of the above in the car, better than I thought. This year I figured out the object of the whole deal and next year I will start at a higher level than this year and go from there. I remember the same process in cycling...i mean exactly the same , I welcome it and will work hard to be a good racer. Tony Stewart once said there are alot of guys out there driving race cars, but there are not many race car drivers. I was driving a race car in the beginning of the year, but at the end I felt a little more like a race car driver. We'll see.
