Reviewing German Motor Werks

How do you guys like German Motor Werks?

I've only been working with Jon and Co. a short while. But I must say I have been very pleased.

I found German Motor Werks because they travel to most of the East Coast and many Central BMW CCA Club Races. They carry an unbelievable collection of spare parts. Whenever someone breaks, Jon is always very generous and willing to help out.

They also specialize in Track Support and offer a full Arrive and Drive service. In this they prepare and tech your car, transport it to the track, purchase your fuel, and pretty much everything else. I tried this for Sebring this year and loved it. I really enjoyed not spending 6 days hauling to and from the track. I flew in on points.

GMW's prices are reasonable especially give the level of service. The most important part is they really are nice people. They make you feel like family.

GMW doesn't currently have a web site. So I am providing contact details here:

Totally agree with you Peter.

They are a great bunch to hang with and they really know their stuff

They work really hard for their money, are always on time at the track, and always have your car ready a few weeks before an event..... Something I haven't seen before I met them.

They are also passionate about racing and they do track support over their regular week days work

As we all know car preparation and support is more than 50% of your upcoming results

Managing the team/events/ordering etc... 25%

That leaves 25% for driving ( sorry about strong egos out there  )

Talking about the team;

First, building: the car has to be built right ( I have never done that....)

Second, maintenance: it has to go through preventive maintenance between races ( means putting money where it counts before things break and that means your team has to have a thorough knowledge of the weak points of your car )

Third, track support:  you need the manpower to repair stuff in a hurry at the track. Because a racer never breaks in the garage, always at the track and usually a few hours before a race ! Murphy's law applies to us

Ideally, have the same group build your racer, maintain and support it and you have a winning strategy !

In November I drove down to Barber (Alabama) and did the race there. I left the car with them from there. Then for Sebring I flew down on points! Man was that civilized (versus 6 days of towing). I plan to pick up the car at the VIR race in April.

I'll look forward to seeing you at VIR every few laps then.

GMW work on a big estate. They will store your car/rig for the whole winter if you let them maintain it. Obviously, this makes a lot of sense if you plan to do a fall and a spring race in the US to extend your racing season ! If you elect to do that, you can even fly down for a race or two during the winter. Wow!
