Car is a 1969 BMW 2002. It was already stripped 13 years ago after I purchased it from Calfornia. During Christmas, I installed an S14 motor, which will be used with Megasquirt and CF airbox. Engine was moved back by 1.5" which necessitated fabrication of custom engine mounts and aluminum oil pan. Brake booster to be removed in favor of a mechanical brake system. Car already has Massive brakes on all four corners. Then the car was brought to the "Boondock Technology Center" for a new cage to be built and a new exhaust line. Car is back at home for final assembly. Dyno in April.
For 2009, half a dozen races are scheduled. Some with vintage racers, some with the e46 "sister car" in D-Mod
- Spring Classic in LCMT - Summit of Legends in LCMT - BMWCCA CR in Calabogie - BMWCCA CR in LCMT - BMWCCA CR in Mosport - Fall Classic in LCMT
And maybe a Sundown enduro

Have you finished the cage? I saw some pics (on Bimmerforums IIRC) and it looked like a pretty extensive build. |

Cage is finished and received its first coat of paint. It is to European FIA Super Touring spec. Double down bar, properly located door X, etc. There are a few "innovative" solutions in its design such as the lower portion of the A and B pillars longitudinally split in half and welded o the rockers (thru /1/8" plates obviously). That allows for the main elements of the cage to be much closer to the shell. In the meanwhile, I have also ordered some group 2 flars from a Belgian manufacturer. That will allow to use 225.45.15 rubber on 15" x 8" rims.

Double down bar, properly located door X, etc. I thought you only needed double down bars if the A-pillars were sloped back at a severe angle (like on most modern cars). The '02 has such upright A-pillars that I wouldn't have expected a double down-bar to be necessary in this case. Still, I guess it doesn't hurt. As long as you can still exit the car quickly there shouldn't be a problem. |

Double down bar required when the horizontal distance between the base of the A pillar and the top bend exceeds a certain value. It is not necessarely directly related to the angle of the windshield. |

BTW, I was at a speed shop this weekend where they were building a 2002 with some kind of a crazy turbocharged nissan engine. Don't worry the engine twisting the poor 2002 into a pretzel, they replaced the subframes and suspension with the nissan parts, and there is a full cage. The 2002 body is basically cosmetic. Should be quite the sleeper. Crazy things going on in that shop. |

Not only the RB26DETT engine, but also the electronically controlled AWD hardware. Lots of custom work, especially fitting the front drive-shafts. But the car should be a beast.
I've also seen pics of an E30 with a twin-rotor Mazda 13B-REW engine and single-turbo conversion from an "FD" chassis RX-7 twin turbo. Makes over 300 hp in a package considerably smaller and lighter than a normally aspirated M10. I've always thought that would be an awesome swap in an '02. |

Not a problem, Peter. But I am sure you are already aware that there are scripts that allow browsers to resize pictures according to the screen size and resolution. That would make your life easier on the long term, and give you more time to spend with Suzanne... |

Test fitting the CF airbox. I will use the CF snorkel and must check for proper alignment. I also have to get decent air filtering. How much of the nose panel must I cut from it? Just ordered a short Tilton master for the boosterless pedalbox. Driveshaft being shortened. Front windshield not arrived yet. Just can't post any picture. No workie. Sorry.

I just received my Belgian flares. So, first off, the flares have ben packaged properly with bubble wrap and have suffered no problem. Obviously the flares are on the econo side. So, I did not expect anything fancy. Sure there is more epoxy than I wished, sure it is not vacuumed-infused, sure I would have prefered a mat instead of chopped FG. But hey they were ony 90 Euro + 50 Euro shipping. I tst fitted a unit on a fender, here are the pictures. after I took them, I applied a bit of pressure to place them more appropritately, and found better positions. More centered left-to-right with the original wheel opening. Overall, I am very happy with what I paid for. The shape is not the same teardrop shape as Steve K's. Width is 4", enough for my 225.45.15. I would recommend the flares anytime.
