Ok I sold off my CCW 18" wheels and then sold my 2007 Porsche Carrera S. I loved the forged CCW wheels...they were 18x9 fronts and 18x12 rears. I have a 2009 Carrera S now and need some track wheels. I would get another set of CCW's in a heartbeat but am rethinking the size. My new 2009 Carrera S has the new SPORT PASM -20mm lower and stiffer suspension. The car comes stock with 19x8 front and 19x11 rear with 235/35/19 and 295/30/19 tires. I am wondering if Porsche tuned this suspension to work better with 19" wheels/tires than the 18" that most people use for the track? Last question is Tire Rack has a new low cost OZ wheel coming out in May. It is cast but is said to use a light casting technique so that the wheel is strong and light but costs less than forged. I could save $1000 with the OZ's instead of buying CCW's again. |

I'm in the same spot trying to figure this out. Porsche, for the 2009 C2 with Sport PASM / LSD option appears to mandate 19" wheels and there's a write-up in Excellence somewhat related about the 18s vs. 19s and how each suspension is "tuned" to run a specific wheel type. For example, it says on the C2 that if you put 19s on the base suspension, you will regret it because the suspension isn't tuned to run those "big" 19s. One would have to assume that if the Sport PASM suspension is tuned and that 19s are mandatory on it, that there's some science behind it.
I sold my 18" Fikses from the GT3 and am keeping my 19" Volks for now and not considering the 18" OZs or any other 18. I think I'll finish up the PSCups that are on the Volks and when those are used up, try the R888. After that, perhaps there will be more information out on the whole 18 vs 19 debate for the 2009 Sport PASM suspension. |

I would try to stay with a very popular standard Porsche size - even on a non-Porsche. i.e. the 235/295x18 in your case. That is the size that will have the most tire availability over the years. You can get litterally anything and they will always be in stock. And don't go too wide. I run a 235/315x18 on my 930 now but am going back to a 235/295x18. I think it actually works better. If you stay with 9&11" rims you have more options. I'm not sure a 295 will work on a 12" rim. I would also skip the 19s. The chance of damaging the rim is drastically increased. Look at pictures of cars cornering hard at the track. You would be surprised how little rubber there is between your $$$ rims and the road. Clip one exit turtle and your wheel is finished. |
